Project description:

Barroso 20MW hydroelectric project is a run-of-river renewable small hydroelectric plant with an effective power rating of 19.95 MW, located at the left margin of the Barroso River in the municipality of Salgar, Department of Antioquia. The energy generated by the project feeds the National Interconnected System of Colombia.

The project activity contemplates the production of clean energy for the Colombian power grid with low emissions technology using a flow of water. The power plant with an effective power generation capacity of 19.95 MW has a predicted power supply to the grid of about 132 GWh per year, thereby increasing the supply of non-GHG producing electricity to the grid and offsetting thermal generation and consequently mitigating future GHG. The project reduces approximately 48,746 tCO2e per year and 341,223 tCO2e for the entire crediting period.

Barroso S.A.S E.S.P. a public services company created in 2009 with the purpose of assuming the electric energy generation, transmission and marketing functions, has implemented the project; meanwhile HMV Ingenieros Ltda has been in charge of design, construction and operation of the power plant.
